Traditional Meatballs with Toasted Onion Herb

The secret to tender and flavorful meatballs is a combination of ground meats and Toasted Onion Herb seasoning. Serve with my Classic Sicilian Red Sauce.


4 tablespoons Toasted Onion Herb
2 pounds ground beef
¾ pounds ground pork
1 cup plain bread crumbs
2 eggs
¾ cup grated hard cheese such as parmesan
¼ cup ketchup
¼ cup Dijon Mustard

1. Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl until just mixed together. Do not over handle this mixture.
2. Using your hands or an ice cream scoop gently form the meat mixture into 1 ½ inch balls.
3. Place meatballs on a cast iron or other heavy bottomed skillet preheated on medium low making sure not to crowd the pan. Cook the meatballs until they are browned on all sides about 12 minutes.

Recipe Tip:
I often cook half of the meatballs immediately and freeze the other half. To Freeze them you will want to spread the meatballs on a cookie sheet and place it in the freezer for 30 minutes so they will not stick together. Remove the partially frozen meatballs from the freezer and place in a freezer or vacuum seal bag. Return to the freezer. This recipe is versatile. You can use Pizza, Sicilian, Toasted Onion Herb or Tuscan as well.
